How did you get into baking?

I've been baking since I was young and my nana was actually the one to teach me how to bake. We would bake any chance we could!

How did you find out about the Volare baking apprenticeship program?

In early 2021, I did a work experience with Volare though the Gateway Program at Hamilton Girls High School. I was later offered a part time job by Sam – our previous Head of Pastry – which turned into a full-time job and then a baking apprenticeship after I decided to leave school.

What is your favourite thing about working at Volare?

Learning! Every day I learn something new. I love learning different tips and tricks my co-workers teach me.

What is your favourite thing to bake?

Cookies, I love baking cookies!

Do you bake at home or just at work?

Yes I bake at home nearly every week. When my family/friends ask for something, I'll bake it for them. And when my Poppa runs out of his shortbread, I'll bake that for him too!

How long did you apprenticeship take / will it take?

I'm on the first year of my apprenticeship so, once I finish this year, I will have two more left.

Do you feel that you've learnt a lot / would you recommend to others?

Yes, I felt like I have learnt a lot and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a career in baking.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Honestly, I have no idea where I'll be in ten years! I'll be 27 years old and even now I'm just kinda going with the flow, so who knows where I'll be in ten years.
